HARRISBURG – Rep. Cris Dush (R-Jefferson/Indiana) issued the following statement regarding his no vote on the $31.63 billion general fund budget (Senate Bill 1071) that passed the state House on Thursday.

Dush’s primary reason for opposing this year’s budget is the $1.6 billion spending increase over last year’s enacted budget, which is five times higher than the rate of inflation and population growth.

“When I continue to receive numbers on how badly our area is being hit in this economy and, especially, with far fewer people employed, I simply cannot justify voting to take even more from their pockets.

“I cannot vote for spending billions of dollars that we don’t have on new programs and a new state weatherman, while our citizens are losing their jobs.

“I will not vote for what I consider an unsustainable spending increase so the governor can deliver pay raises and health club benefits for employees and administrators, while the people they work for, the taxpayers whose pockets are being picked, have been reduced to eating ramen noodles.”
