HARRISBURG
– To increase education funding by more than $245 million without raising the Personal Income Tax or sales tax, Rep. Tom Quigley (R-Montgomery), with a bipartisan majority of his colleagues, voted in favor of a $31.55 billion state budget.

“Both Republicans and Democrats coming together to support this budget is a true testament to the many positives it contains,” Rep. Quigley said. “Locally, our schools will receive a $1.5 million increase that will be driven out via the new fair funding formula.”

The $245 million education funding increase includes $200 million for basic education, $25 million for Pre-K Counts and $20 million for special education.

“Despite prioritizing education for the children of the Commonwealth, taxpayers will not be forced to foot the bill through an increase in the Personal Income Tax or sales tax. I am pleased that we have avoided those options again,” Quigley added.

The budget would rely on additional dollars made available through the recent state liquor law reforms, an expansion of legalized gaming and other revenue enhancements.
