HARRISBURG
– For the second consecutive year, Rep. Craig Staats (R-Bucks) voted for an on-time, balanced budget that includes no broad-based tax increases. The $31.5 billion budget spends nearly $2 billion less than Gov. Tom Wolf proposed in his February budget address.

Included in this year’s budget is a $200 million increase for basic education, $15 million to combat the state’s opioid epidemic and funding for three classes of state police cadets. The Palisades, Pennridge and Quakertown Community school districts are set to receive an additional $1 million.

“This is a bipartisan budget which reflects a return to cooperation in Harrisburg. I am proud to be standing up for Pennsylvania’s taxpayers for the second year in a row to ensure that broad-based tax increases are not used to fund additional spending. We’ve passed a fair and responsible budget and I am hopeful that it will soon be passed by the Senate and signed by Gov. Tom Wolf,” said Staats.

The bill passed 132-68 and now moves to the Senate for consideration.

Pennsylvania’s 2016-17 fiscal year begins on Friday, July 1.
