HARRISBURG – To help promote and recognize the economic impact of Pennsylvania’s amusement and water parks, the House of Representatives today unanimously adopted
House Resolution 877, designating June 10 as Amusement Park Day in Pennsylvania, said Rep. Frank Farry (R-Bucks).
Fourteen Pennsylvania parks, including Bucks County’s Sesame Place, were individually recognized in the House.
Opened in 1980, Sesame Place is the nation’s only theme park based entirely on the award- winning show, Sesame Street. Located in Middletown Township, the 14-acre theme park features 15 mechanical dry attractions, nine water attractions, five interactive play elements and the Sesame Street Neighborhood.
“We were pleased to recognize Sesame Place today in the House, in celebration of PA Amusement Park Day. The park has been a valued part of our community for more than 35 years, and it’s particularly special to me because I worked there for 11 years,” said Farry. “The park and all of its employees work tirelessly to ensure an enjoyable experience for all guests.”
“At Sesame Place, we have the pleasure of bringing the magic of Sesame Street to life,” said Park President Bob Caruso. “We encourage families to experience the joy of being a kid (or being a kid again) while making lifelong, lasting memories.”
Pennsylvania’s family theme parks and water parks entertain more than 12 million visitors annually and support more than 16,000 jobs.
In addition to Sesame Place, House Resolution 877 honored Camelback Lodge and Aquatopia Indoor Waterpark, Conneaut Lake Park, DelGrosso’s Amusement Park, Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom, Dutch Wonderland, Great Wolf Lodge, Hersheypark, Kalahari Resort and Convention Center, Kennywood, Knoebels Amusement Resort, Lakemont Park and The Island Waterpark, Split Rock Resort Indoor Waterpark, and Waldameer Park and Water World.
“All of Pennsylvania’s amusement parks play an important role in our state and local economies,” Farry said. “Not only do they serve as popular destinations for Pennsylvania families, but they also draw in out-of-state tourists, who frequent other local businesses and attractions in the region.”
Tourism is one of Pennsylvania’s leading industries, injecting nearly $40 billion annually into the economy and supporting 304,000 Pennsylvania jobs.
