HARRISBURG –Legislation sponsored by Rep. Doyle Heffley (R-Carbon), which ensures that a service member’s military education and training are taken into consideration for the purpose of fulfilling requirements for professional credentials, was recognized during a ceremonial bill signing last week.
This legislation, Act 23 of 2015, requires an issuing state agency to consider whether a veteran’s military education, training and service experience satisfy certain or all licensing or certification requirements. During their service, veterans receive military training that overlaps with the training required for a civilian career. However, many veterans have difficulty finding jobs upon returning to civilian life due to arduous certification and licensing requirements.
“Act 23 recognizes the valuable training our veterans receive while serving our country and helps Pennsylvania’s veterans secure family-sustaining jobs. I believe we owe our veterans this support as they transition into civilian life,” said Heffley.
Act 23 took effect on September 8, 2015.
