HARRISBURG –Legislation sponsored by Rep. Doyle Heffley (R-Carbon), which will ensure that a service member’s military education and training are taken into consideration for the purpose of fulfilling requirements for professional credentials, was signed into law by Gov. Tom Wolf last week.

This legislation, now Act 23 of 2016, requires an issuing state agency to consider whether a veteran’s military education, training and service experience satisfy certain or all licensing or certification requirements. During their service, veterans receive military training that overlaps with the training required for a civilian career. However, many veterans have difficulty finding jobs upon returning to civilian life due to arduous certification and licensing requirements.

“Act 23 will recognize the valuable training our veterans receive while serving our country and help Pennsylvania’s veterans secure family-sustaining jobs. I believe we owe our veterans this support as they transition into civilian life,” said Heffley.

Act 23 will take effect on July 16, 2016.
