HARRISBURG ā Today, state Rep. Jesse Topper (R-Bedford/Fulton/Franklin joined a strong bipartisan majority of the House of Representatives in supporting a fair basic education funding formula, which was a included in
House Bill 1589, also known as the Fiscal Code. Gov. Tom Wolf previously vetoed the Fiscal Code, which included the agreed-to education funding formula. The legislation was adopted by a vote of 149 to 45. It was previously adopted in the state Senate with a veto-proof majority of 37-11.
Topper issued the following statement after the passage of the legislation:
āIād like to thank my colleagues for coming together to support this new school funding formula, which will more equitably distribute state aid to schools across the Commonwealth. In the 78th District, this will increase school funding by over $130,000 which can be used to better educate our children. While the governor previously vetoed legislation that including this fair funding formula, I hope he will respect the will of the Legislature and promptly sign this legislation into law. By adopting this legislation, we are taking a great step forward in continuing to support high quality education across the Commonwealth.ā
