Joined by family and friends, Rep. Eric Nelson (R-Hempfield Township) today took the oath of office to represent the people of the 57th District in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.
HARRISBURG — Joined by family, friends and supporters, Eric Nelson (R-Hempfield Township), the new representative for the 57th Legislative District, was formally sworn into office today at the state Capitol. Nelson, who won a special election on March 15, was elected following the resignation of Rep. Tim Krieger (R-Delmont), who is now serving as a Westmoreland County judge.

“I look forward to bringing my experience as a Marine, business owner and educator to the General Assembly,” said Nelson. “I am committed to using common sense and fiscal discipline to make sure government spends only what it has, the same way we do in our homes and businesses. My focus will be on putting hard-working taxpayers first by holding the line against tax increases and combatting the illegal drugs that have invaded our communities.”

A lifelong resident of Westmoreland County, Nelson graduated from Hempfield Area High School and earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in safety sciences from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP). After graduating from college, Nelson enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served for eight years with deployments in Albania, Estonia, Okinawa and Thailand. He re-enlisted for an additional year of service following the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Following his distinguished military career, Nelson returned to serve his community as a local businessman who has created jobs and successfully met a budget for three separate businesses for more than 15 years. He is also a faculty member at IUP where he takes great pride in teaching the workforce of tomorrow.

“I look forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to address the many challenges facing our Commonwealth and to make state government fully accountable to the people,” said Nelson. “I encourage residents who have questions or concerns regarding any state government issue to contact my district office. My staff and I are dedicated to delivering the highest level of constituent service.”

Nelson invites constituents to stop by his Greensburg district office, which is located at 101 Ehalt St., Suite 105 (at the Train Station), and can be reached by calling (724) 834-6400. For the latest legislative updates, visit RepNelson.com and Facebook.com/RepNelson.
