HARRISBURG – Rep. Rosemary M. Brown (R-Monroe) made the following statement after Gov. Tom Wolf announced he will allow the General Assembly’s latest budget to become law:
“I am pleased that the governor has accepted our latest attempt at completing the 2015-16 state budget, a task that is long overdue on his part. I am hopeful that as we begin work on the 2016-17 budget, he remembers that this process requires negotiations and working together and understanding the many needs of constituents across the state.
“While I’m very glad our schools, agriculture, corrections and medical communities will be able to get their state funding, I have concerns about the governor’s plan to veto the budget’s accompanying fiscal code. This means the budget will use the generic education funding formula when allocating funding to schools in 2015-16 budget.
“The balanced $30 billion supplemental budget restores funding to schools, corrections and agriculture without broad-based tax increases. It is a well-known fact that our education funding distribution formula has been unfair for years, which has hurt many school districts across Pennsylvania, including many that I represent. It is irresponsible for the governor to disregard moving forward to a new, more fair distribution formula and to allow the damage and unfairness to our schools, students and taxpayers to continue.”
