HARRISBURG – State Rep. Harry Lewis Jr. (R-Chester) supports Gov. Tom Wolf’s decision to allow the supplemental budget to become law. In total, the complete 2015-16 state budget will spend $30.031 billion without requiring any tax increases. Following the governor’s budget announcement, Lewis released the following statement:
“One of our most important responsibilities – educating the children of the Commonwealth – has been honored with this budget. It includes a record increase of $200 million for basic education as well as a 5 percent increase for community colleges and the State System of Higher Education. Our students can rest assured that they were treated as a top concern.
“Pennsylvania residents deserve to have a government that meets deadlines and doesn’t point fingers across the aisle when it doesn’t happen. They are entitled to their money being spent responsibly in Harrisburg, just as it would be spent in their own homes. During the quest for an approved 2015-16 budget, it became clear to me that we owe residents much more than they have been receiving.
“If Gov. Tom Wolf elects not to sign the budget bill within 10 days of receiving it, as he has indicated he plans not to do, the bill will become law effective on Monday. At that point, I plan to begin working with my colleagues of both parties to pursue the 2016-17 budget. It will be an opportunity to deliver everything that residents deserve that they unfortunately did not receive this fiscal year, and I look forward to that challenge.”
