HARRISBURG – State Rep. Duane Milne (R-Chester) today welcomed the end of Pennsylvania’s budget impasse which caused a funding gap in education and other key services to persist for nine months.
A supplemental budget passed with Milne’s support that Gov. Tom Wolf will allow to become law, brings total spending this fiscal year to $30.03 billion. The budget increases basic education spending by $200 million over the 2014-15 budget and restores funding for state-supported colleges and universities, hospitals and Child Advocacy Centers. It increases no taxes.
“I differ with Gov. Wolf’s earlier vetoes, but he is finally doing the right thing,” Milne said. “I do regret he has decided against signing it, opting to let it become law without his support. But the outcome of today is that the schools our children attend will finally have funding for the complete school year, the services our most vulnerable citizens rely on will receive support, and our working families won’t face higher tax burdens. We should certainly welcome that much.”
