HARRISBURG – Today, Rep. Tom Quigley (R-Montgomery) commended Gov. Tom Wolf for his decision to allow the supplemental budget that was presented to him on March 16 to become law. The $30 billion budget will not require any tax increases. Following the governor’s budget announcement, Quigley released the following statement:
“The governor recognized financial interests of both Commonwealth students and taxpayers when he chose to support the budget passed last week by the House and the Senate,” Quigley said. “It met two of the top priorities: delivering top-notch education and providing an affordable place to live.
“During the negotiations that have taken place in the last nine months, we have all lived in fear of many threats: an increased Personal Income Tax – even talks of a retroactive increase at one time – a higher sales tax and a sales tax expansion to include more products and services. We have crossed the finish line without any of those burdens being placed on Pennsylvanians.
“Even without approaching the people of the Commonwealth for more money, the budget dedicates record funding to basic education. With a $200 million increase, we are proud of the work we’ve done and look forward to producing a budget of such quality next year, though in a much more timely fashion.”
