HARRISBURG– At a press conference Wednesday afternoon, Gov. Tom Wolf announced he would allow the supplemental budget approved last week by the House and Senate to become law, marking the end of the state’s 2015-16 budget impasse.

School districts, universities, rural hospitals, critical health programs, children’s advocacy centers, agriculture initiatives and others that had their funding cut by the governor’s latest veto will finally receive their state allocations.

“As opposition to his taxes grew, concern for local school districts mounted and after it became likely any veto would be defeated, Gov. Wolf finally agree to end the impasse,” Ortitay said. “Local schools will now be able to operate without fear of closure.”

In total, the complete 2015-16 state budget represents a 3 percent increase over the 2014-15 plan, and does not require any new or increased taxes. This action signals an end to the 2015-16 budget process and allows the General Assembly and governor to immediately begin negotiations on the 2016-17 state budget, which is due by June 30.
