Mar. 16, 2016

HARRISBURG – Rep. Doyle Heffley (R-Carbon) issued the following statement after the House voted to send a supplemental budget to Gov. Tom Wolf. This bill would restore the governor’s cuts to education, agriculture and hospital programs, and would finalize the 2015-16 budget.

“Today, the House voted to finalize the remaining 13 percent of the current budget. The bill passed 128-63, falling just six votes short of a veto-proof majority. This is the closest we’ve come to date to completing the 2015-16 budget. I am encouraged by today’s progress. However, the governor has already announced that he will veto our attempt to bring this situation to an end.

“Patience in Harrisburg is wearing thin as enough votes were secured to ensure funds will be released to the state-related universities, yet our public schools are still in jeopardy. This evening, 13 of my Democratic colleagues joined with Republicans to vote to keep schools open and restore critical cuts to agriculture programs like the Penn State Extension. It is my hope that we can secure six additional members who will come forward to override Gov. Wolf’s potential veto. The education of our students should not be a partisan issue.”
