HARRISBURG – The House of Representatives today passed the remaining portion of the 2015-16 state budget, restoring unilateral cuts made by Gov. Tom Wolf in December. The balanced $30 billion supplemental budget restores funding to schools and agriculture and increases basic education funding by $200 million without tax hikes. Rep. Stephen Bloom (R-Cumberland), who supported the plan, released the following statement urging the governor to sign the budget:
“Gov. Wolf today has the opportunity to finally do the right thing and join the House and Senate in closing the 2015-16 budget book that he has held open. The time for his temper tantrums and political stunts is long gone. If the governor vetoes this balanced and responsible plan we put on his desk, he will be manufacturing yet another unnecessary crisis for our citizens in the name of higher taxes — school doors will close on our children and college students, employees will get laid off and our agricultural community will be in jeopardy.
“The bipartisan budget plan we passed today respects the taxpayers and ensures we are living within our means. We have compromised with the governor, increased funding for our school children by $200 million. There is no excuse for the governor to prolong chaos and disruption for our students and hard-working agricultural community. I urge Gov. Wolf to sign this balanced supplemental budget instead of vetoing vital funding like he did three times in the past year.”
