HARRISBURG – State Rep. Warren Kampf (R-Chester/Montgomery) issued the following statement this week after the state House voted to reject Gov. Tom Wolf’s latest proposal to increase state income taxes:

“I have made it clear since the governor put forth his proposal to raise income taxes that the people of the 157th District are opposed to it, and that is the way I voted.

“What did become evident from this vote are two things: first, there is a bipartisan opposition to this proposal; and, second, after months of rhetoric about a severance tax, the governor finally admitted that his plan is based on taking more from working families, with 95 percent of the revenue coming from a Personal Income Tax increase.

“Taxpayers want change. They want government to implement commonsense cost controls, especially by reforming the public pension system, before it asks from more of them. I agree.

“I remain willing to work with the governor and the Democratic members of the General Assembly to come to a consensus on a state budget. It is my hope that this vote shows them that the path forward must include controlling spending and fixing problems before we turn to raising taxes.”
