HARRISBURG – Today, Rep. Ryan Warner (R-Fayette/Westmoreland) joined his colleagues in the House in defeating Gov. Tom Wolf’s $3.8 billion tax hike, which included a 16 percent Personal Income Tax increase on the working people of Pennsylvania.

Warner issued this statement following today’s vote:

“For too long, politicians in Harrisburg have succeeded at spending taxpayer dollars, but have failed to look for ways to save them. They have succeeded at finding ways to grow and complicate government processes, but have failed to cut waste and make state government more efficient.

“The tax plan put forward today by Gov. Wolf was no different. It failed to solve any of the fiscal problems facing the Commonwealth or cut wasteful government spending. It simply continued Pennsylvania’s far too familiar “tax-and-spend” status quo.

“Let me be clear, Gov. Wolf’s plan is not a tax hike on Corporate America, it is a tax hike on small businesses and the everyday working citizen. Under his plan, it is the middle-class that will foot the bill and feel the pain.”

“Pennsylvania will not prosper as long as politicians have the mentality that taking more money from hard- working people is the answer to our budget shortfalls. The residents of Fayette and Westmoreland counties cannot afford status quo. They need real budget solutions, not higher taxes.

“Today’s vote shows that most of Pennsylvania agrees. Now, I hope we can finally move forward.”
