HARRISBURG- Rep. Greg Rothman (R-Cumberland) voted to approve emergency funding for struggling social service agencies and schools. The legislation, Senate Bill 1000, includes state appropriations of over $11 billion and releases over $24 billion in federal funds. The appropriations would be applied retroactively to fund government operations from July 1 to October 31.
“Human service agencies and schools have been without a budget since June 30. Organizations that provide for the needs of our most vulnerable populations are reducing services or laying-off staff. Schools have begun to experience cash-flow problems as their federal reimbursement funds are being withheld. There is no excuse not to release these funds,” said Rothman.
“I voted to provide critical funding to social services and government operations at levels in most cases above last year's funding at a pro-rated share through October 31, 2015. I hope Governor Wolf will sign this legislation as leadership negotiates a full budget with him.
“I am hopeful we can all agree that these funds should be released including billions of dollars in Federal funds that are simply passed through the state to programs providing these critical services,” said Rothman.
