HARRISBURG – Rep. Mike Peifer (R-Pike/Wayne) today voted to release critical state funding to schools and human service agencies. The House passed an emergency funding bill that would allow state and federal dollars to flow to state operations that are in desperate need of funding.
“We are in our third month of this budget impasse, which is now becoming historic for many reasons. First, the governor vetoed the entire on-time, balanced budget offered to him by the Legislature. Now, our state’s human service agencies are being forced to take drastic measures in order to secure financing to continue their operations. The state has the necessary funding, and at this point, the only person authorized to release it is Gov. Tom Wolf. Rescuing these agencies that serve our most vulnerable citizens is the responsible thing to do.”
The funding includes state appropriations amounting to $11 billion, retroactively to July 1 and carrying through to Oct. 31. The emergency funding bill also allows $24.3 billion in federal dollars to reach their intended recipients, and PHEAA grants and county child welfare funding will be disbursed at 50 percent.
