HARRISBURG -- Rep. John Taylor (R-Philadelphia) joined a majority of his House colleagues in passing emergency legislation to fund social service agencies across the Commonwealth, while releasing funds to our school districts.
The legislation,
Senate Bills 1000 and
1001, would provide $11 billion in state funds and allow $24.3 billion in federal dollars to reach their intended recipients.
“The ongoing budget negotiations have placed incredible stress on our social service organizations and our schools,” Taylor said. “That’s why it was critical to pass an emergency funding bill to help those who are suffering by releasing money that is being held up by the governor’s veto.”
The current crisis began when Gov. Tom Wolf vetoed the budget passed in June because it did not contain his massive, broad-based income and sales tax increases.
“I strongly urge all sides in this budget challenge to come together and to end the impasse,” Taylor said.
