HARRISBURG -- Rep. Ron Marsico (R-Lower Paxton) issued the following statement today in response to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives passing emergency funding for schools, human services and more:
“The state budget should have, and could have, been enacted months ago. We, in the House of Representatives, agreed to the majority of what the governor asked for in his budget and he still chose to veto all of it.
“Today, the House debated, voted on and passed an emergency state funding bill, which would release $11.2 billion in state funds in order to keep our schools, human services and other critical agencies operating.
“I supported this emergency funding because I refuse to have Pennsylvania’s children sit in school without the tools they need to learn, such as new textbooks. I also refuse to make victims of violence go without the assistance they need in crisis situations. And I think it would be absolutely deplorable if the governor vetoed this urgent legislation.
“I strongly urge the governor to do the responsible thing and sign this legislation as soon as it comes before him. We desperately need to get this emergency funding released before our schools and human service operations are shut down.”
