HARRISBURG – Rep. Rick Saccone (R-Allegheny/Washington) called on Gov. Tom Wolf to stop playing politics with Pennsylvania’s most vulnerable citizens and immediately sign the emergency funding legislation passed today by the House.

The measures, Senate Bills 1000 and 1001, would allow funding for critical state programs serving seniors, at-risk youth and individuals with disabilities to flow on an emergency basis through October while overall budget negotiations continue.
Following passage, Saccone issued the following statement:

“This governor hasn’t dealt squarely with the Legislature or the people of Pennsylvania. From the very start, he’s used bait-and-switch tactics to muddle the waters and create confusion – all in an effort to hide from working people that he wants to raise their sales and income taxes by billions.

“Even though they agree with Republicans on the level of funding for critical human services funding, the governor and House Democrats have repeatedly blocked the release of these funds, turning retirees and children with disabilities into bargaining chips for higher taxes. This is unconscionable.

“The only thing standing today between Pennsylvanians in need and the funding for programs that serve them is Gov. Wolf’s signature. I call upon him to sign the emergency funding legislation now and stop the charade.”
