HARRISBURG – In an attempt to provide funding to vital human service agencies across the Commonwealth, Rep. Craig Staats (R-Bucks) today cast several votes in favor of overriding the governor’s veto of several line items in this year’s state budget.
The historic veto attempts all failed along party lines.
He issued the following statement:
“Today’s actions were my attempt to continue funding human services while we negotiate a final budget. The people of Pennsylvania expect more than Washington, D.C. - style politics. The failure to fund these human service programs was a clear exercise in partisan politics. We were sent to Harrisburg to get things done, and I would like to challenge the governor to lead and negotiate a responsible budget.
“The line items voted on today were funded at an equal or higher level than what the governor requested in his budget proposal. Today’s actions show that the governor cannot take yes for an answer.”
