WHAT: The House Game and Fisheries Committee, chaired by state Rep. Keith Gillespie (R-York), will hold a public hearing to discuss Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) and its threat to Pennsylvania’s cervid population. CWD attacks the brain of infected deer, elk and moose, producing small lesions that eventually result in death.
Last week’s disclosure of deer from Blair and Lancaster counties testing positive for the disease brings the total number of cases to 49 since CWD was first discovered in Pennsylvania in 2012 on an Adams County deer farm.
WHO: Testifiers include representatives from the Pennsylvania Game Commission, Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, Pennsylvania Deer Farmers Association and Pennsylvania Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs.
WHEN: Thursday, June 14, 10 a.m.
WHERE: Room 60, East Wing, State Capitol.
