HARRISBURG – Seventeen fire and emergency medical services (EMS) companies in the 109th District were awarded grant funding through the 2023-24 Pennsylvania Fire Company and Emergency Medical Services Grant Program, Rep. Robert Leadbeter (R-Columbia) announced today.

“I’m happy to see these grant dollars being awarded to our local first responders, who are always ready to assist when emergency strikes,” said Leadbeter. “This funding will significantly contribute to their daily operations, and I will continue to support these organizations in every way.”

The following is a list of local organizations that received grants and the amount of the awards:

• Aristes Fire Company #1 - $14,228.68.
• Beaver Township Volunteer Fire Company - $13,061.55.
• Benton Volunteer Fire Company - $13,256.07.
• Bloomsburg Fire Department Inc. - $15,006.77.
• Bloomsburg Volunteer Ambulance Association Inc. - $15,000.
• Buckhorn Community Fire Company No.1 - $13,256.07.
• Catawissa Hose Company 1 - $13,645.11.
• Espy Fire Company - $13,350.
• Lightstreet Community Fire Company - $13,256.07.
• Lime Ridge Fire Company No. 1 - $13,256.07.
• Main Township Volunteer Fire Company - $13,061.55.
• Mifflin Township Forest Rangers and Fire Company 1 - $13,839.63.
• Millville Community Fire Company - $13,256.07.
• North Mountain Volunteer Fire Company - $12,850.
• Orangeville Volunteer Fire Company - $13,450.59.
• Ranger Hose Company 2 - $13,061.55.
• Reliance Fire Company No.1 - $15,000.
• Summerhill Fire Co. 1 - $12,832.
• Valley Chemical Fire Company - $14,228.68.
• West Berwick Hose Company No. 1 - $13,061.55.

Projects and programs eligible for funding include facility upgrades, equipment purchases, debt reduction, training and certification, education and public outreach, and recruitment and retention efforts. Additionally, fire companies were permitted to apply for construction savings accounts for the purposes of new facility construction.

The ongoing funding program was created by the General Assembly. All grants are generated from slot machine gaming proceeds, and not General Fund tax revenue. The program is administered by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency with the application process handled through the Office of the State Fire Commissioner (OSFC). The funding amounts are contingent on the recipients filing their grant agreements with OSFC.
