HARRISURG –Today, the Basic Education Funding Commission met and heard testimony on Gov. Wolf’s School Funding Formula plan.

“The governor's funding plan is a start,” Parker said. “I'm very pleased to see Governor Wolf recognize the major problem facing Monroe County taxpayers. Our taxpayers have been uniquely punished for decades as they are forced year-after-year to make massive over-payments compared to other Pennsylvanians. It's time for Pennsylvania to fix this travesty. It's time to adopt a fair funding formula that stops punishing taxpayers from a dozen school districts. Now is the time to fix this!”

The Basic Education Funding Commission, which was created when House Bill 1738 was signed into law last year, is tasked with developing and recommending a new formula for distributing state funding for basic education to Pennsylvania school districts. Any new formula the commission recommends must take into account relative wealth, local tax effort, geographic price differences, enrollment levels and local support.
