HARRISBURG – Rep. Chad Reichard (R-Franklin) issued the following statement after House Democrats rammed through a $50.61 billion state budget—marking the largest spending plan in Pennsylvania history:

“This budget proposal does not include a financial sheet to show representatives the entire impact on Pennsylvanians. Without the details necessary to make an informed decision, we cannot vote yes today. We do know this proposal will continue a significant deficit that will rapidly deplete our surplus and saddle future generations with the consequences.

“This kind of unchecked government growth is simply not sustainable. Rather than investing in new programs that will only require more funding year after year, House Republicans put forward a responsible alternative – The Pennsylvania Prosperity Plan – aimed at strengthening our economy and creating opportunities to for all residents to succeed.

“It’s disappointing our plan was dismissed. The best way to grow the economy is to return money to taxpayers and empower them to spend it as they see fit. Unfortunately, this budget sets the stage for future tax hikes and long-term fiscal instability. I remain hopeful our Republican colleagues in the Senate will have greater success advancing a budget that respects taxpayers and prioritizes real, lasting economic growth.”
