HARRISBURG – Rep. Marci Mustello (R-Butler) released the following statement after voting "no" on the proposed 2025–26 state budget (
House Bill 1330), which was passed primarily by House Democrats:
“I believe there are fundamental problems with this budget and strongly disagree with the absence of clarity and lack of ‘sunshine’ the final proposal was afforded prior to passage. It puts politics before policy and bluntly pushes through an expansion of government without any concern for future sustainability. It is a spending bill with little regard as to how to pay for itself.
“Additionally, there were a myriad of changes made to the proposal just minutes before the House Appropriations Committee, on which I serve, was asked to vote on it. Then it was brought to a House vote without any explanation of the tax or fiscal code implications, a full financial breakdown or other aspects that warrant debate and discussion.
“If this budget is ‘so great,’ then why wasn’t it introduced a month ago, before the deadline, when everyone could have time to review it? The notion of passing a bill so that it can be fully examined later is an irresponsible way to govern and I do not support it.”
