HARRISBURG – Rep. Scott Barger (R-Blair/Huntingdon) today introduced legislation that seeks to confirm state grant recipients are following federal employment guidelines with their workers.
House Bill 1781 would require that any entity receiving a grant from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania use the federal E-Verify system to ensure new hires are lawfully authorized to work in the United States.
“Commonwealth grants should be designated for responsible employers with a lawful workforce, not entities whose laborers work in the shadows,” Barger said. “This bill would give taxpayers additional peace of mind when it comes to knowing who is on job sites across our state.”
Barger anticipates House Bill 1781 will be referred to the House Labor and Industry Committee.
