PETERS TOWNSHIP –– Rep. Natalie Mihalek (R-Allegheny/Westmoreland) today announced she will serve as a member of U.S. Sen. Dave McCormick’s (R-Pennsylvania) U.S. Service Academy Nominations Advisory Board.

“During my military tenure, I worked with some of the nation’s strongest leaders and experienced firsthand how the right management and stewardship make all the difference for our servicemen and women,” said Mihalek, who served in U.S. Navy. “I am honored to have the opportunity to play a role in selecting the next generation of military leaders.”

McCormick named 34 veterans, public servants, and community leaders from across Pennsylvania to serve on two advisory boards, one each in the western and eastern halves of the state. They will evaluate applications, participate in interviews, and recommend candidates to be considered for appointment to the nation’s U.S. Service Academies: the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. Candidates applying to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy do not need a congressional nomination for appointment.

In addition to applying directly and meeting the admission requirements of their service academy of choice, interested applicants must also secure a nomination from a member of Congress to be eligible for appointment to a U.S. Service Academy. The application portal for Pennsylvanians interested in McCormick’s nomination to one of the four U.S. Service Academies is open now and can be accessed on the senator’s website.

A complete list of individuals selected by McCormick for the advisory boards can be found on his office’s press release.
