HARRISBURG – State Rep. Dallas Kephart (R-Cambria/Clearfield) hosted the House Republican Policy Committee last week in Clearfield County. The committee had the opportunity to tour Walmart’s state-of-the-art distribution center in Woodland. What makes this facility unique is that it has been largely converted into an automated facility using advanced robotics.

State legislators were able to see the technology in action and how it improves inventory tracking and stocking, increases shipping times and keeps up with spikes in consumer demand. For work that was once very labor-intensive, these upgrades allow for a less physical toll on the workers.

“Last week’s visit to Walmart’s Clearfield County Distribution Center gave us a glimpse into the future of American manufacturing and logistics,” said House Republican Policy Chairman David Rowe (R-Juniata/Mifflin/Snyder/Union). “This facility proves we can embrace automation and cutting-edge robotics without displacing workers. It’s exactly why Pennsylvania needs to invest in more career and technical education programs in advanced manufacturing, so the next generation of workers is ready to meet the needs of a rapidly changing economy.”

“Walmart is the largest private employer in my district,” shared Kephart. “The distribution center alone employs approximately 850 people—and will continue to do so. We also have a supercenter retail location in Clearfield. Walmart’s investment in our area boosts our local economy, provides local tax revenue, and provides many jobs for people. I am glad my colleagues came to see the distribution center.”
