HARRISBURG – A resolution marking October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Pennsylvania passed the House of Representatives today, according to the resolution’s sponsor, Rep. Sheryl M. Delozier (R-Cumberland).
A passionate advocate for victims of crime, rape and domestic violence for more than 30 years, Delozier introduces this resolution each year to highlight the need for increased awareness and education about domestic violence in the Commonwealth. According to the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency, 119 people lost their lives to intimate partner violence in 2024 alone.
“As a volunteer who has escorted survivors, answered crisis hotline calls and served as a board member, I’ve witnessed the devastating effects of domestic violence firsthand,” said Delozier. “This issue knows no boundaries. It affects people of every gender, age, socioeconomic background, and education level. Domestic violence is a pervasive crisis that can touch anyone’s life.
“I have two bills that address this issue directly.
House Bill 1419 would hold those who repeatedly break protection from abuse orders accountable.
House Bill 1432 would add to the definition of stalking to protect victims from the torment of a stalker.
“The purpose of my resolution, and teaming up with my colleague from York County, Rep. Carol Hill-Evans, is to raise awareness and promote education. When we come together with a unified voice and share vital resources, we empower survivors to feel seen, heard and supported. Every victim deserves unwavering advocacy and a voice to become a survivor,” continued Delozier.

House Resolution 279. I look forward to continuing our work on behalf of Pennsylvanians in need because even one victim is one too many.”
