HARRISBURG – Rep. Tim Bonner (R-Mercer/Butler) and Sen. Michele Brooks (R-Mercer/Crawford/Lawerence) announced that the Neshannock Creek Watershed Joint Municipal Authority has been awarded $1.6 million in PENNVEST Clean Water and Drinking Water State Revolving Fund financing for the State Route 19 south sewer project in Mercer County.
The project will construct a new pump station along State Route 19, approximately three miles south of Interstate 80, replacing an outdated sewage treatment plant. The upgrade will ensure reliable sanitary sewage service for more than 300 residents in Findley, Coolspring, Springfield and East Lackawannock townships, while also supporting local businesses, including the Iron Bridge Inn and Rachel’s Roadhouse, which have been community staples for more than 40 years.
“By improving wastewater infrastructure, we are supporting existing businesses, as well as paving the way for future growth,” said Brooks. “This funding will also go toward upgrades which support ‘Project Cake’, a proposed commercial development in East Lackawannock Township that is expected to create approximately 1,800 jobs in Mercer County and the surrounding region.”
“A modern pumping station is essential for reliable wastewater service,” Bonner said. “This upgrade will protect public health, support local businesses and allow for future growth in our communities. By replacing outdated infrastructure, we are ensuring that residents and employers have the services they need for decades to come.”
PENNVEST is an independent state agency that provides financial assistance for sewer, storm water and drinking water projects in communities across the commonwealth. Its financing is provided through the use of federal funding and prior bond issues by the state as well as proceeds from the Marcellus Shale Impact Fee legislation, Act 13 of 2012.
