HARRISBURG – Rep. Sheryl M. Delozier (R-Cumberland) today announced the Pennsylvania House of Representatives has passed House Resolution 399 with near unanimous, bipartisan support. The resolution formally designates Feb. 19 as Wear Purple Day in honor of Peyton Walker and all children and young people who have lost their lives to Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA). The Peyton Walker Foundation is located in the 88th District.

“SCA is one of the leading causes of death in youth and often strikes without warning, even in healthy children,” said Delozier. “By recognizing Wear Purple Day, we are raising awareness, honoring the lives lost, and promoting lifesaving education and preparedness across our Commonwealth.”

Each year, thousands of children and adolescents nationwide experience SCA, often during school, athletic, or community activities. Many underlying heart conditions are detectable and treatable when identified early, and survival rates increase dramatically when CPR and an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) are readily available.

Wear Purple Day began as a grassroots effort by families, schools, and communities to honor Peyton Walker, a 19-year-old college student who tragically died from SCA. Delozier’s resolution elevates that effort by encouraging statewide participation from schools, government entities, businesses and community organizations.

“These proven interventions save lives, yet awareness and access remain inconsistent,” Delozier added. “My resolution is a meaningful step toward honoring those we’ve lost and reinforcing our shared commitment to protecting the health and safety of children across Pennsylvania.”
