HARRISBURG – As Pennsylvanians are being priced out of everyday life, Rep. Thomas Kutz (R-Cumberland) is proposing legislation to create sales tax holidays for new and growing families. His bills are part of a broader initiative lead by House Republicans to create “Freedom Through Affordability.”
Kutz’s proposals would create six-month sales tax holidays for toys, musical instruments, and children’s books.
“These sales tax holidays are essential because they give families meaningful relief on the everyday items that help children learn and grow. By lowering the cost of toys, musical instruments, and children’s books, we’re easing financial pressure and giving households more flexibility in their budgets, ensuring that every child has greater access to the tools that inspire creativity and support their healthy development.
“I am proud to partner with several of my Republican colleagues on affordability bills that would directly benefit Pennsylvania families.”
Additionally, Kutz has co-sponsored other legislation in this package that would create sales tax exclusions for toiletries, tools, lumber, back-to-school supplies, and equipment for firefighters.
Kutz is also co-sponsoring a proposal to suspend the state’s Gross Receipts Tax on electricity and cell phone services for six months; as well as reduce the state’s Personal Income Tax rate from 3.07% to 2.99% during that same period.
