HARRISBURG – Rep. Marcy Toepel (R-Montgomery) will serve as a deputy policy chair for the House Majority Policy Committee during the 2015-16 legislative session.

“It is a privilege to have been selected to serve on a committee that affects all Pennsylvanians,” Toepel said. “As a deputy policy chair, I am looking forward to influencing what legislation will be acted upon throughout the next two years.”

The committee travels across the Commonwealth, conducting hearings and roundtable discussions about important issues to gather testimony and information from key stakeholders. Toepel will attend these hearings and work with her colleagues in the House Republican Caucus to develop policies that will address those issues.

Toepel is specifically interested in working with the other committee members to achieve property tax reform, develop a fair school funding formula, as well as stabilize and reform the state’s public pensions.

“Pennsylvania’s public pension debt – now totaling more than $50 billion – continues to increase, which means that we will have less money in the budget for everything else with each year that reform is not achieved,” Toepel explained. “By enacting meaningful reform, we will be addressing the most important policy issue facing Pennsylvania.”
