HARRISBURG – To honor and remember local heroes, legislation introduced by Rep. Jack Rader (R-Monroe) which would designate a portion of Route 115 in Monroe County as the Submarine Veterans Memorial Highway, passed the House unanimously on Tuesday.
United States Submarine Veterans-Pocono Base, a group of local veterans, approached Rader about the idea of permanently honoring area submarine veterans. The organization is very active throughout Monroe County and attends many community functions. The result is
House Bill 1964.
The designation would be on Route 115 from Long Pond Road in Tunkhannock Township to Jonas Road in Chestnuthill Township in Monroe County.
“I am pleased to have received such widespread support for this idea,” said Rader. “By designating a portion of Route 115 as Submarine Veterans Memorial Highway, we are ensuring their legacy lives on for generations. This is a fitting tribute to their selfless service to our country.”
The bill must now be considered by the Senate.
