HARRISBURG – Rep. Barb Gleim (R-Cumberland) announced today that she has been appointed by Speaker of the House Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny) to serve as secretary of the House Education Committee for the 2019-20 Legislative Session.
“As a freshman member, it is a true honor to have been appointed this week to serve as secretary of the House Education Committee by Speaker Turzai,” Gleim said. “I look forward to working with my colleagues and leadership on all education issues facing the Commonwealth. I am passionate about our next generation’s future in Pennsylvania and I am excited to utilize my experience at local, state and national levels here in the General Assembly.”
The House Education Committee works on state issues involving public and private schools, encompassing pre-K through grade 12 basic education, as well as post-secondary education.
“Education funding represents more than 42 percent of the governor’s proposed $34.1 billion 2019-20 state budget,” Gleim said. “It is the single largest discretionary spending item in the state budget every year. It is imperative that funds appropriated by the Legislature and legislation passed by the Education committee reach and benefit our students in the classrooms.”
Gleim also serves on the House Human Services, Game and Fisheries and Children and Youth committees. She recently became a member of the Harrisburg Regional Chamber’s Education Subcommittee.
