HARRISBURG- Rep. Stan Saylor (R-York) issued the following response to Gov. Tom Wolf’s proposed $33 billion budget proposal.

“For the last three years, we have heard that doom and gloom would befall Pennsylvania if we did not raise taxes on hard-working families and employers. By holding the line on spending and looking out for taxpayers, the House Republican Caucus has saved the taxpayers of Pennsylvania millions of dollars. Now with his fourth budget proposal, the governor says he has taken care of the structural deficit. This proves that his pursuit of higher taxes was about one thing – more spending.”

“I intend to pursue a budget that does not increase taxes or fees. Pennsylvania’s government needs to live within its means and not spend more than it takes in. The federal government has finally shown real leadership by giving everyone a raise by ensuring that people are able to keep more of their hard-earned money. We should explore ways to lower the tax burden on our constituents so that we can help to reinvigorate the Pennsylvania economy,” Saylor said.

He also emphasized the importance of trying new approaches to solve the budget problem. “Last year the House Republican Caucus embarked on a mission to reinvent government. Our constituents have shown us that they don’t want to settle for the status quo. While changing the way state government operates can be a frustrating endeavor, we fully intend to continue to eliminate government waste, end duplicative programs, and find strategic ways to promote efficiencies in state government. We need to focus on ways to reduce state spending so that we can ensure long-term fiscal stability.”
