The Senate Resolution 6 Commission unveiled its final report Wednesday in the state capitol making 27 recommendations to address challenges faced by the fire and EMS community in Pennsylvania. Rep. Frank Farry (R-Bucks), co-chair of the House Firefighters and Emergency Services Caucus and a member of the commission said the 102-page report includes suggestions for changes at state and local levels to improve recruitment, retention and training of emergency services volunteers in the Commonwealth. Rep. Farry added that the state’s volunteer fire and EMS companies are now facing extreme manpower shortages and action needs to be taken quickly to help avert this crisis.

A commission charged with studying the challenges facing Pennsylvania’s emergency service providers delivered a long-awaited report Wednesday in the state capitol that focuses on what needs to be done to improve recruitment and retention in the two critical fields of fire-fighting and emergency medical services. Co-chair of the bipartisan and bicameral Senate Resolution 6 Commission, Rep. Steve Barrar (R-Chester & Delaware) said he feels the 27 specific recommendations in the report will help lawmakers draft the legislation needed to address the crisis in the recruitment and retention of community-based emergency service volunteers.
