Rep. Saccone Introduces Legislation to End License Suspensions for Individuals with Drug and Non-Driving Convictions

Rep. Rick Saccone (R-Allegheny/Washington) has introduced two bills aimed at ending driver’s license suspensions for people convicted of a non-vehicle related crimes. House Bill 42, would remove the driver’s license suspension for non-driving related convictions such as theft and the purchase of tobacco or alcohol by a minor. Additional legislation would also eliminate the driver’s license suspension for any individual convicted of a crime related to the possession of a controlled substance. Saccone said these pieces of legislation are designed to eliminate unfair punishments and help ensure those who are convicted of non-driving related offenses can reenter society as productive citizens.

The Pennsylvania House on Wednesday took up debate on gaming expansion legislation that may be the final piece of the funding puzzle for this year's state budget. Majority Leader Dave Reed said the bill which was amended by the Senate on Wednesday evening represents a long process of compromise and is expected to generate much needed revenues for state government. The House is expected to vote on the gaming expansion package on Thursday.
