Rep. Ellis Announces Bills to Help Protect PA Consumers Negatively Affected by a Credit Information Security Breach

House Commerce Committee Chairman Brian Ellis (R-Butler) and Rep. Mike Driscoll (D-Philadelphia) announced the introduction of two pieces of legislation Tuesday aimed at assisting Pennsylvania consumers whose personal credit may be negatively affected by a situation like the recent Equifax data security breach. The bills would require credit services to provide timely notification of a personal data breach event and prevent consumers from being charged to freeze their credit accounts. Rep. Ellis, who sponsored of one of the bills, said this is a first step in tightening credit information protections and helping consumers who may face future costs as a result of a credit information breach.

Rep. Heffley Comments on His Bill to Ensure Proper Public Benefit Distribution

Legislation designed to ensure that public benefits are reserved for American citizens was approved by the Pennsylvania House on Tuesday. House Bill 1095 would bring Pennsylvania into compliance with federal law by requiring those seeking public benefits to show proof of citizenship or legal eligibility. Bill sponsor Rep. Doyle Heffley (R-Carbon) said that considering the Commonwealth’s budget situation, all steps must be taken to ensure proper distribution of public funds. Heffley’s bill now moves to the Senate for consideration.

DiGirolamo Says Any Cuts to Medicaid Expansion Could Hurt Pennsylvanians

Citing the thousands of people who would be impacted and the increased costs to the Commonwealth, Rep. Gene DiGirolamo (R-Bucks) led a broad coalition of health-related organizations Wednesday in the state capitol in expressing their concern over passage of potential federal health care legislation and its potential impact on Pennsylvania. Rep. DiGirolamo, chairman of the House Human Services Committee, said that if Graham-Cassidy had passed or if a similar version would pass to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act (ACA), Pennsylvania stands to be one of the biggest losers.
