HARRISBURG – Calling it a supportable and responsible plan, today Rep. Lori Mizgorski (R-Allegheny) voted in favor of a $33.997 billion state budget that does not include new or increased taxes but also invests in the core functions of government.
The House budget proposal, which passed the House today, focuses on several key priorities to stand up for Pennsylvania taxpayers and protect their hard-earned money today and in the future.
“I am very pleased that we were able to pass a budget that doesn’t include any new or increased taxes,” said Mizgorski. “Thanks to a good and growing economy, we have more revenue coming in and we are able to wisely manage our funds by putting money away in our Rainy Day Fund, something that I believe is very important.”
The budget proposal passed by the House takes a historic step by committing at least $250 million into the Commonwealth’s Rainy Day Fund, which is the state’s savings account and is used when the economy hits a downturn and revenue collections are weak.

The budget proposal also includes a $432 million increase in preK through 12th-grade education funding. Additionally, special education funding would be increased by $50 million, while career and technical education would be increased by $10 million.
“I am happy to report that with this budget, we have significantly increased education funding,” said Mizgorski. “With this investment in our schools, every school district within the 30th Legislative District will see an increase in state funding. Additionally, I am pleased that we have increased funding for human services and public libraries.”
Although the House passed the budget on Tuesday, it still needs to be approved in the Senate and signed by the governor.
