HARRISBURG – Rep. Tedd Nesbit (R-Mercer/Butler) today voted in favor of a state budget proposal that holds the line on spending while not including any new or increased taxes or borrowing.
“Overall, I am pleased with this budget proposal that we passed today,” said Nesbit. “We have benefited from a good economy, and with the increased revenues coming in, we’ve been able to work together and pass a strong, responsible and bipartisan budget proposal that doesn’t include any broad-based tax increases.”

The budget proposal passed by the House includes a $432 million increase in PreK through 12th-grade education funding. Additionally, special education funding would be increased by $50 million, while career and technical education would receive $10 million more.
Furthermore, this budget proposal takes a historic step by committing at least $250 million into the Commonwealth’s Rainy Day Fund, which is the state’s savings account and is used when the economy hits a downturn and revenue collections are weak.
“I am happy that we are putting $250 million into our Rainy Day Fund,” continued Nesbit. “I would like to see more added, but I believe this is a good start for us to start to properly manage and save to avoid raising taxes down the road if our economy hits a downturn.”
Although the House passed the budget on Tuesday, it still needs to be approved in the Senate and signed by the governor.
