Legislation allowing the sale of wine and beer at grocery stores recently took effect in Pennsylvania allowing local stores to offer the convenience of food and alcohol purchases in one place. Thanks to the new law, sponsored by House Speaker Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny), Pennsylvania has taken the first steps in moving toward a privatized system for the sale of wine and liquor in the Commonwealth. Several local lawmakers were joined by Governor Wolf at a Wegmans store in Mechanicsburg on mark the beginning of private wine sales in the state.

Legislation designed to increase funding for the Neighborhood Assistance Tax Credit Program was the topic of a hearing held recently in Pittsburgh by the House Finance Committee. Rep. Mark Mustio (R-Allegheny), prime sponsor of House Bill 2213, said this is a successful program, and he wants to expand its capacity to rejuvenate communities across the Commonwealth.

Legislation sponsored by Speaker of the House Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny) recently went into effect to privatize the sale of wine in Pennsylvania and take the first step in dismantling the Commonwealth’s monopoly on the retail and wholesale sales of wine and liquor. Thanks to the new law, wine is now being sold in a Pennsylvania grocery store for the first time since prohibition. Speaker Turzai said that after more than 80 years of full government control, the Privatization Era has begun in the Commonwealth.
