Zimmerman Bill Would Expand Sale of Raw Milk Products
HARRISBURG – Rep. Dave Zimmerman (R-Lancaster/Berks) today introduced legislation that would expand raw milk products farmers can sell with a raw milk permit.
Under current Pennsylvania law, only raw milk and raw milk hard cheese can be sold with the appropriate permits. Zimmerman’s legislation would allow holders of a raw milk permit to sell additional raw milk products.
“We are seeing an ever-increasing consumer demand for organic and natural food products, including raw milk and raw milk products,” said Zimmerman. “People want foods with less processing and fewer chemicals. This legislation would allow for greater access to such products without compromising any of the raw milk safety standards set by the Department of Agriculture.”
House Bill 2293 is expected to be referred to the House Agriculture Committee for consideration.
