HARRISBURG – Rep. Martin Causer (R-Turtlepoint) has been reelected by his peers to serve as chairman of the House Majority Policy Committee for the upcoming 2021-22 Legislative Session.
It will mark his first full term serving as a member of the House Republican leadership team after serving in the role for the last five months.
“I am deeply honored by the continued opportunity to help lead our caucus and our Commonwealth through these very challenging times,” Causer said. “Pennsylvania is a diverse state, and in my role as policy chairman, I will focus on building consensus on policies that move us forward as we work to reopen our economy, protect public safety and improve quality of life for all Pennsylvanians.
“Most importantly, having a seat at the leadership table puts me in a better position advocate for the issues facing our rural communities and residents,” he added.
Causer was first elected policy chairman in June after changes in the House Republican leadership team resulting from the retirement of former Speaker of the House Mike Turzai. Causer is the first member from McKean County to serve on a House leadership team since Victor J. Westerberg of Kane, who served as minority policy committee chairman in the 1975-76 session.
The Majority Policy Committee is made up of all members of the Republican Caucus and is charged with helping to examine an array of issues identified as top priorities by lawmakers. The information gathered by the committee through hearings, informational meetings and on-site visits helps to drive the caucus’ policy agenda for the session.
Causer has spent most of the last eight years in a leadership role for the House, serving as chairman of the House Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee since the 2015-16 session and prior to that as chairman of the House Game and Fisheries Committee in the 2013-14 session.
In addition to Causer’s reelection, lawmakers also nominated current Speaker of the House Bryan Cutler (R-Lancaster) to continue his service in that role next session. Also reelected to their posts were Reps. Kerry Benninghoff (R-Centre/Mifflin) as majority leader, Stan Saylor (R-York) as appropriations committee chairman, Donna Oberlander (R-Clarion/Armstrong/Forest) as majority whip and Kurt Masser (R-Northumberland/Columbia/Montour) as caucus administrator.
Rep. Mike Reese (R-Westmoreland/Somerset), who currently serves as caucus secretary, has been elected to be caucus chairman, and Rep. Martina White (R-Philadelphia) was elected caucus secretary.
Causer has served as representative for the 67th Legislative District since 2003. For legislative updates, visit
