HARRISBURG - Rep. Jeff Wheeland (R-Lycoming), member of the House State Government Committee, today issued the following statement on the need for an audit of the 2020 election process to ensure legal disputes can be resolved in a timely manner and to assure Americans that future elections will be fair, transparent and trustworthy.
“My constituents are rightly angry and appalled that our vote counting process has been hijacked by those with little regard to their fellow citizens’ right to vote in a free and fair election,” said Wheeland. “All they ask for is that every vote legally cast is counted and that the illegal activity seeking to discount the votes of law-abiding citizens is immediately investigated and ended.
“It is a scandal and a shame that Pennsylvanians did not have the results of the election on Election Day like their fellow citizens did in properly-managed states, such as Florida, Texas, South Dakota and others. Moreover, it is a disgrace that their votes may have been canceled by illegal activity which was allowed to happen because of the Wolf administration and our state Supreme Court circumventing the laws put in place by the General Assembly -- in violation of our federal and state Constitutions.
“Sadly, due to the political games that the Wolf administration engaged in--from the dismissal of our laws to the politically biased statements issued by certain officials to the lack of discipline and oversight given to local officials acting unlawfully--we now have to battle in court for the votes of Pennsylvanians to be protected.
“This legal process must include an audit of our election process if we are to have any sense of the extent of the damage done by illegal activity that has now been documented in sworn affidavits. The audit will also allow the legal process to move along smoothly and efficiently and the election process to finally come to a fair conclusion.
“I also implore the media to do its job and investigate every nook and cranny of all of those involved in the electoral process. Pennsylvanians deserve answers. It’s past time for hard questions to be asked and answered on this process.”
