HARRISBURG – State Rep. Curt Sonney (R-Harborcreek) today joined the majority of his colleagues in sending to Gov. Tom Wolf a key piece of budget-related legislation for the 2015-16 fiscal year.
House Bill 1801 restores the Dec. 29 cuts made by the governor via line-item veto before he signed the current budget into law. The bill would increase basic education funding and restore support for agriculture – Pennsylvania’s No. 1 industry – and correctional facilities across the state.
Sonney released the following statement after passage of the legislation:
“The House and the Senate have come together with a supplemental appropriation bill that will close out the 2015-16 budget. The simple fact of the matter is the money we have appropriated has already been certified as available revenue, so there’s absolutely no reason for the governor to not sign this.
“Gov. Wolf’s vetoes have had a tremendous affect in members’ districts – not in Harrisburg, in the districts. He cut back funding for our schools and they’re all suffering as a result. I think everyone in Erie County knows the Union City School District is now laying off teachers, teacher aides and custodial workers just to try to make it to the end of the school year so students can graduate.
“The threat to our schools is absolutely not necessary, it should not be happening and it should have never happened. The governor can end that right now.”
Questions about these bills or any legislative issue should be directed to Sonney’s Corry district office at (814) 664-9126 or his Harborcreek office at (814) 897-2080.
