HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania House of Representatives today passed emergency funding legislation to offer immediate relief to health and human services organizations and school districts adversely impacted by Gov. Tom Wolf’s budget veto on July 1, and the subsequent unwillingness of House Democrats to vote with Republicans during an override attempt in August.
After voting with the majority to release the critical funding, Rep. Russ Diamond (R-Lebanon) issued the following statement:
“The governor has been determined to manufacture a budget crisis since day one. By denying funding for critical state programs serving children, seniors and citizens with disabilities, the governor hopes that Pennsylvanians will throw in the towel and accept billions higher sales and income taxes. His political tactics won’t work. Feedback from constituents has been overwhelming, insisting that I vote to hold the line on taxes and require government to live within its means. That’s what I did today, and that’s what I will continue to do.
“It’s time for the governor to stop treating Pennsylvanians in need as pawns in a political chess game. I call upon him to put politics aside and sign this emergency funding bill without further delay.”
